Ortavia Simon’s Biography

Attorney Simon is the president and managing attorney at the Simon Law Group, P.A. He is a member of the Florida Bar and the Middle District of Florida and has dedicated most of his professional and academic career to carving a niche practice in mortuary law. Attorney Simon currently specializes in Personal Injury Law, Wrongful Death Law, and Funeral Service Law.

He is an alumnus of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service, where he earned an Associate’s degree in Mortuary Science in 2004, Argosy University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, in 2012, and Florida A&M University College of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate, in 2015.

Attorney Simon gained the majority of his experience while working as a Law Clerk, for the Charlip Law Group L.C., and with The Chestnut Law Firm, as a Wrongful Death Paralegal. During his time with both the Charlip Law Group and The Chestnut Firm, Attorney Simon was able to gain a tremendous amount of experience in handling a variety of mortuary claims, wrongful death claims, negligence security claims, and premises liability claims. In 2023, he became a licensed funeral director and the same year, he, alongside his little brother, opened their very first Funeral Home, in their hometown of Orlando Florida: Stafford and Simon Family Funeral Home.

Since the inception of the Simon Law Group, Attorney Simon has completed more than one thousand (1,000) pro bono hours for underserved communities throughout Central Florida. The Simon Law Group has grown from one attorney to multiple employees due to becoming a successful high-volume-producing law firm. After securing a 5 million dollar verdict, the Simon Law Group was named in the Top 50 Personal Injury Verdicts of Florida in 2019 and one of the Top 50 Verdicts overall for 2019 from a Negligent Security case. In fact, his litigation and trial experience consists of participating in evidentiary hearings, requiring familiarity with the rules of Florida evidence; trying jury and bench trials in eight (8) years of practice; and litigating cases beyond pre-suit negotiations just to name a few. In April of 2024, Attorney Simon became an esteemed member of Florida A&M College of Law Faculty, as an Adjunct Professor, teaching evidence.

Attorney Simon and his firm believe in helping clients receive not only the appropriate compensation for their injuries but also desire to ensure that justice is served in every case. The firm strives to give each case the care and attention it deserves in hopes of a successful outcome. Attorney Simon makes it a priority to contribute thousands of dollars to annual
scholarships for graduate students and provide legal and educational guidance to several young lawyers throughout Central Florida and FAMU College of Law students. In law school, he served a term as President of a student organization called the American Constitution Society, a progressive public interest group, which advocated for equal justice under the law. Currently, Attorney Simon is a member of the Independent Funeral Directors Association and the Florida Mortician Association as well as other organizations throughout the Central Florida area. The
Simon Law Group and his funeral home host an annual Back to School backpack giveaway where we distribute school supplies within the community. Simon Law Group has been able to give nearly 2500 backpacks since beginning an annual backpack and school supply giveaway and the firm hopes to increase its giving efforts in the future. Simon Law Group also hosts Thanksgiving meal drives and annual Christmas giveaways where it reaches out to local schools in underserved communities and provides gifts to children within the community. Youth participants typically receive laptops, tablets, bikes, and many other items they desire. In addition to his own Christmas giveaways, Attorney Simon also contributes annually to other Foundation’s toy giveaways and has donated more than $15,000 to families in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
